Lower School Music and Performing Arts Program

Concerts During the first semester, students apply vocal music techniques to classic Christmas and holiday music, including folk songs and carols from around the world sung in English, Latin, French, German, and Spanish. This repertoire is presented in a traditional Christmas program on the last day of school before the Christmas Break.
Lower School Christmas Program - A, B, 1, 2 Level 4 and 5 students sing as a Chorus, presenting short programs of traditional songs throughout the school year. Instrumental Music Lessons Professional music instructors come to the Lower School to provide individual instrumental music lessons after school. This service is offered as a convenience for Brookfield Academy families. Click here for more information on after-school music lessons. Musical Theater Brookfield Academy also offers students the opportunity to perform in school musicals. The Lower School performance takes place in March and the Upper School performances take place later in the spring semester. A student wishing to audition for a lead role, which requires a considerable commitment of time outside of the school day, should watch for notices announcing those audition times. The Lower School musical is open to any student in Levels A through 5. The Upper School musical is open to the entire student body, depending on the needs of the particular show being produced. For example, the productions of "The Sound of Music," "The King & I," "My Fair Lady," and "Fiddler on the Roof" utilized the talents of all three divisions at Brookfield Academy. The Lower School music program provides opportunities for reading, creating, and performing music with a strong choral emphasis. Participation by listening to great composers, playing Orff instruments, and the use of various forms of folk music are incorporated into an accelerated, sequential Kodaly approach. The Kodaly system uses songs and games to introduce rhythmic and melodic tools for music literacy. Music appreciation is encouraged through listening to symphonic music in class at all levels. Levels 2, 3, and 4 attend Milwaukee Symphony Youth Concerts. A digital piano lab enhances the broad array of musical experiences available to all Lower School students.
